Professional installation of natural stone, concrete pavers, and flagstone for patios, walkways, pool decks, and outdoor living spaces.
A patio is where your backyard becomes a room. It's the surface that defines the space — the dining area, the fire pit zone, the pool surround, the path from the back door to the garden. Get it right and you use it every day from May to October. Get it wrong and you've got a surface that shifts, settles, and grows weeds through the joints within two years.
We install patios, walkways, pool decks, and retaining walls across the GTA using concrete pavers, natural stone, flagstone, and porcelain. Every project starts with a solid base — because in Ontario, a patio without a proper base is a temporary patio.
The most popular choice for patios and walkways. Concrete pavers from Unilock, Techo-Bloc, Permacon, and Oaks come in hundreds of styles — from clean modern slabs to textured stone replicas. They're consistent in size, colour-fast, and rated for Ontario freeze-thaw cycles. We work with 50mm pavers for pedestrian areas and 60mm for driveways and areas with vehicle traffic.
Limestone, granite, sandstone, quartzite — natural stone gives you a look that manufactured pavers can't replicate. Each piece is unique. Natural stone patios cost more in material and labour (irregular sizes require more cutting and fitting), but the aesthetic is hard to beat for clients who want a one-of-a-kind outdoor space.
Flagstone is flat, naturally split stone — usually limestone or sandstone. It's laid in an irregular pattern with either tight joints (dry-set on a gravel base) or wider joints filled with ground cover or polymeric sand. Flagstone works beautifully for garden paths, cottage-style patios, and transitional spaces where a relaxed, natural look fits.
A newer option gaining popularity for modern outdoor spaces. Porcelain pavers are extremely dense — virtually zero water absorption, which means no freeze-thaw damage. They're thinner than concrete pavers (20mm is standard), so installation requires a more precise base. Colour is consistent and doesn't fade. Higher material cost, very low maintenance.
We start with the layout — shape, size, elevation changes, steps, borders, and connection points to the house, garage, and other hardscape. For larger projects, we use string lines and grade stakes to map the finished surface before excavation begins.
We excavate a minimum of 10 to 12 inches for pedestrian areas (patios, walkways) and 14 to 16 inches for areas that may see vehicle traffic. Granular A base gets laid in lifts and compacted to a firm, stable foundation. Base depth is where most shortcuts happen — and where they show up fastest.
A 1-inch layer of screeded bedding sand provides the final level surface for the pavers. Pavers are placed according to the chosen pattern, cut to fit at borders and curves, and checked for level as we go. Complex patterns (fan, circle kits, multi-format layouts) take longer but create stunning results.
Aluminum or polymer edge restraints lock the border in place. Polymeric sand fills every joint, hardens when activated with water, and prevents weed growth, insect intrusion, and paver movement. We compact the entire surface after sanding to set everything tight.
Patio installation in the GTA typically ranges from $18 to $35 per square foot for concrete pavers and $30 to $50+ per square foot for natural stone — installed, including base preparation.
The variables: material selection, base conditions, design complexity, elevation changes, steps, and retaining walls. We provide a detailed quote after the site visit.
We install patios, walkways, and outdoor stone work across the Greater Toronto Area — Toronto, Vaughan, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham, North York, Scarborough, and Richmond Hill.
A typical residential patio (200-400 sq ft) takes 3 to 5 days — 1-2 days for excavation and base, 1-2 days for paver installation, and half a day for sanding and compaction. Larger or multi-level projects take longer.
Sometimes, if the existing concrete is level and structurally sound. We can install pavers on a thin bedding layer over concrete — but drainage must be addressed. If the concrete is cracked or heaving, removal is the better option.
It's optional. Sealing enhances colour and provides some stain resistance, but it's not required for durability. Some homeowners like the wet-look that sealer provides; others prefer the natural matte finish. Polymeric sand in the joints is the more important maintenance item.
We grade every patio with a minimum 2% slope away from the house — that's about a quarter inch per foot. For enclosed patios or areas near foundation walls, we install a French drain at the perimeter to handle runoff.
Not a great idea. Tree roots grow and will lift and shift pavers over time. If there are significant roots in the installation area, we'll discuss options — sometimes we can design around them, sometimes the tree or the patio location needs to change.
